So you’ve decided that you want to be a nurse. That’s awesome!....or is it? Do you think you have what it takes? The intellect? The patience? The compassion? There is a lot involved when you care for others. Sometimes it’s a duty that comes with not enough financial reimbursement, long hours and demanding tasks.
Where to begin?
If you think you have what it takes.... go for it! Look into nurse assistant programs to get started in the industry. Just know that as a nurse assistant you will be doing a lot of direct patient care which is usually labor intensive. However, this step is important because when you continue on and advance your education you will appreciate your nurse assistants. And in turn you nurse assistants will be your backbone
Don’t stop now.
Once you decide you want to enter this amazing profession set your goals and be prepared for the good, the bad, the joyous and the stressful times. Everyday is different, every patient is important and it will be hard. But you know what, it has to be hard! You’re committing to take care of lives which is serious business.
It’s so worth it!
I will be the first to tell you that some days I would question myself, my skill, my strength to continue. But I couldn’t stop! I had to go through the storm to reach the mountain. The tears, the failures, and the loss made me the person and the nurse I am today. I don’t have any regrets. Deciding to start nursing school was one of the best decisions I’ve made and looking back now as I have come a full circle, I know that this is exactly where I was meant to be.
